11D Black Sea Eastern
DAY 1 - Trabzon (D)
Upon your arrival in Trabzon your guide will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. You will drive to the 14th century Byzantine church of Aya Sofia, famed for its beautiful frescoes. After visiting the church we travel to the Altindere National Park and the Sumela Monastery, perched on the cliffside above the valley From the park we drive along theBlack Sea coast to Hopa, on the Georgian border for an overnight stay.
DAY 2 - Trabzon - Erzurum (B, D)
After breakfast we depart for Erzurum via the towns of Artvin and Ishan, driving through the beautifully scenic Georgian Valleys. Overnight stay in Erzurum.
DAY 3 - Erzurum - Kars (B, D)
We leave Erzurum for Kars and travel alongside the Aras River, past the First World War battlefield site of Sarakimis. We continue onwards to the ancient Armenian city of Ani, on the Arpacay River. After our tour of the ancient ruins we stay overnight in Kars.
DAY 4 - Kars - Dogubeyazit - Van (B, D)
En – route to Dogubeyazit we pass the Biblical mountain of Ararat, where Noah landed the Ark, and visit the Ishak Paşa Palace. We then proceed to the city of Van where we spend the night.
DAY 5 - Van (B, D)
After breakfast we visit the 17th century fortress of Hosap which sits astride the ancient Silk Road, linking Europe with the Orient. After lunch we visit Akdamar Island and the 10th century Church of the Holy Cross. Overnight stay in Van.
DAY 6 - Van - Tatvan (B, D)
We leave Van and drive along the southern shore of Lake Van for Tatvan. We visit the great Volcano Crater of Nemrut, not to be confused with the mount which is home to the carved stone heads, and the Seljuk monuments of Ahlat. We stay overnight in Tatvan.
DAY 7 - Tatvan - Mardin (B, D)
We drive through the Bitlis Gorge and onto the city of Hasankeyf, which sits on the River Tigris, finally arriving in Mardin. Overnight stay in Mardin.
DAY 8 - Mardin - Kahta (B, D)
After breakfast we visit the ancient Saffron Monastery, an important Syriac Christian site. We visit the ancient funerary monument of Mt Nemrut with its colossal monoliths and stone heads at sunset.We stay overnight in Kahta.
DAY 9 - Nemrut - Urfa (B, D)
From Nemrut we depart for the ancient city of Urfa, the birthplace of the Prophet Abraham. En route, we will stop at the Ataturk Dam, the keystone in the South East Anatolian Project (GAP). Overnight in Sanliurfa.
DAY 10 - Sanliurfa - Gaziantep (B, D)
After breakfast we will visit the ancient town of Harran, which is mentioned in the Book of Genesis: 11:31., with its famous “Beehive” houses. We continue to the ongoing archaeological dig at Gobeklitepe to visit what is considered to be the oldest religious construction in the world. This archaeological wonder pre-dates Stonehenge by 6,000 years. We travel onwards to Gaziantep where we stay overnight.
DAY 11 - Gaziantep (B, D)
The Gaziantep Mosaic Museum houses a priceless collection of mosaics from the now sunken city of Zeugma. After a visit to the citadel we explore the Old Town of Gaziantep. Overnight stay in Gaziantep.
DAY 12 - Departure (B)
After breakfast you are transferred to Gaziantep Airport for your onward flight.
