Black Sea Explorer (7D)
DAY 1 – Arrival to Trabzon (D)
On arrival to Trabzon Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Dinner and overnight in Trabzon.
DAY 2 – Sumela Monastry and Karaca Cave (B, D)
After breakfast we depart for the 4thC Sumela Monastery and the Altinda National Park. After visiting the monastery with its beautiful frescoes we leave for the Zigana Caves. The stalagtites and stalagmites of this magical natural phenomenon are reputed to be the finest in Asia Minor.
DAY 3 – Trabzon City and Uzungol (B, D)
After breakfast we visit the 13thC church of St. Sophia, Ayasofya, with its magnificent frescoes. We also visit the Girls Monastery, a 13thC convent and the Ortahisar Mosque. From Trabzon we depart for Uzungol where we stay overnight.
DAY 4 – Rize, Firtina Valley Ayder Plato (B, D)
We take the opportunity to visit the Rize Tea Research Instıtute and sample the various popular “brews”. We are able to enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Kackar Mountains and take lunch in one of the villages set in the foothills of the verdant mountains. Overnight stay in Ayder
DAY 5 – Ayder, Borcka, Karagol, Artvin (B, D)
On the drive to Artvin we visit the ancient Georgian churches of Yeni Rabat and Dolishane. We drive along side the the Coruh River, one of the finest rafting rivers in the world. Overnight stay in Artvin.
DAY 6 – Yusufeli and Erzurum (B, D)
Our drive through the River Coruh Valley brings us to the Georgian Churches of Ishan and Oshk-Vank and we also visit the Tortum Waterfalls where we have lunch. We stay overnight in Erzurum.
DAY 7 – Erzurum & Transfer to Airport (B, D)
After breakfast we visit the Seljuk & Mongolian monuments and the Cifte Minareli Medrese, a theological school, with its two minarets which soar into the sky and the Yakutiye Medrese, built by Mongolian Prince Olcayto, in 1308, is famous for its richly tiled minaret. We also visit the Ulu Mosque and Erzurum Castle. In the afternoon you are transferred to Erzurum Airport for your onward flight.
