After meeting your guide at the hotel reception or cruise ship port we visit the St Saviour in Chora. Converted in the 15thC to a mosque, the one time church is filled with the most magnificent frescoes and mosaics depicting the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary. A short walk down the hill brings us to the Pierre Loti Café where we can gaze across the Golden Horn towards Galata. Close to the shoreline is the Mosque of Eyup El Ensari, who was the Standard Bearer and the Companion of the Holy Prophet Muhammud. His tomb can be viewed through a small grille and the mosque is one of the holiest sites in Islam, attracting pilgrims from around the globe. We then travel to the Suleymaniye Mosque complex which towers above the Golden Horn, its towering minarets soaring into the sky. The huge complex was filled with religious foundations, schools, a hospital and a soup kitchen. In the grounds are the tombs of Suleyman the Magnificent, his wife Roxelana and the small simple tomb of the great architect Sinan.
