Your guide will meet you at either your hotel or Cruise Ship for the tour of the Cld City. We firstly visit the Aya Sophia Museum. The Byzantine Basilica built by Emperor Justinian is adorned with magnificent mosaics. The Golden Dome represents heaven and it was beneath it that successive Roman Emperors of the Byzantine Empire were crowned. Leaving the museum we visit the Topkapi Palace, the home to Ottoman Sultans for nearly 400 years. The treasury is filled with gold and silver objects, jewels, Chinese porcelain and a collection of robes worn by the Sultans. The mystical Harem and the gardens with their pavillions offer panoramic views across the Golden Horn and the Bosporous. From the palace we walk to the Mosque of Sultan Ahmet, known in the west as the Blue Mosque because of the 21043 colbalt blue Iznik tiles that adorn the interior. This is the only Ottoman mosque with six minarets. At the side of the mosque is a park which was originally the Hippodrome, the social and entertainment center of Constantinople. The grassed area of today contains the bronze Serpintine Column of three intertwined snakes, the Egyptian Obelisk of Theodosius III and the Fountain of Kaiser Wilheim II. From the Hippodrome we transfer to the Grand Bazaar, a shopaholics paradise, with over 4000 shops where every conceivable item can be purchased. Gold and silver jewellery, antiques, carpets and souvenirs. After the tour you will be transferred back to your hotel or cruise ship.
